Ian J. Palombo, MA, LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, an Adjunct Professor, and a Sport & Performance Psychology consultant. I have over a decade of experience in the health care industry, and a lifetime of experience as a competitive athlete and coach.
I have completed all-but-dissertation towards my EdD in Sport & Performance Psychology from The University of Western States, I earned my M.A. in Applied Sport and Performance Psychology from the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of Denver, and my B.S. in Organizational Behavior and Leadership from the University of Rhode Island. Lastly, I have held numerous certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine throughout my career.
Prior to opening Denver Mental Health Collective and Mind Body Sport, I worked as a Primary Therapist, Program Coordinator, and Athletic Clinician at a renowned eating disorder treatment center in Denver. I have served as a Strength & Conditioning Coach, Personal Trainer, Corporate Wellness Consultant, and – perhaps most surprising – Senior Accountant for a midsize healthcare company.
My core values are altruism, love, and equality. In my spare time I enjoy cycling, spending time in nature with my partner and our two crazy chocolate labs, DIY home renovation, and woodworking.
Rachel Garrett, MA, LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about helping others experience the freedom that comes from living into your identity.
I received my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Denver Seminary and my B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation from Clemson University. Prior to obtaining my M.A., I worked as a Certified Child Life Specialist where I provided medical play, preparation for procedures, and psychosocial support to hospitalized children and their families. Prior to joining Denver Mental Health Collective, I worked as a Lead House Counselor and a Lead Milieu Therapist at EDCare, a partial hospitalization treatment center for Eating Disorders. I have completed TLC’s Professional Training Institute, where I received training in current cognitive behavioral training approaches for the treatment of trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder), excoriation (skin picking disorder), and other related body-focused repetitive behaviors.
My primary areas of interest include body image issues and eating disorders, body-focused repetitive behaviors, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, spirituality, and navigating life transitions. I use a direct, yet compassionate approach and highly value humor in the counseling process. I strive to put others at ease while maintaining trust. I primarily utilize a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Strengths-Based approach, however I often adapt my modality to best fit the needs of my clients.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, biking, and taking advantage of all that our state has to offer, cheering on my alma mater (Go Tigers), spending time with my husband and our energetic black lab, and traveling back to the South to visit friends and family.
